Step 1 of 3 · For people in Pakistan who paid for an Amazon course
These are the five salaries I pay.
Not an opinion about the market. My own payroll bands for Amazon operators, and the one thing that buys each row. Read the table and find yourself on it — that part takes about a minute.
| Row | What the job actually is | A month |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Beginner. Supervised, on somebody else’s account. Your work is checked. | 50,000 |
| 2 | Account manager. One or two accounts are yours. You are the one checking. | 70,000 |
| 3 | Senior account manager. Three or four accounts, and decisions taken without asking me. | 150,000 |
| 4 | Team lead. People report to you, and what they ship is yours. | 250,000 |
| 5 | Senior team lead. The whole function, and the client phones you. | 400,000 |
Row 1 to row 2 is 1.4 times. Row 1 to row 3 is three times. So whatever “double your income” means to you, it is about one and a half rows up this table. I am not promising you a row. I am publishing the table and letting you do the multiplication, which is the part nobody has ever put in front of you.
Three short pages. No video, nothing to register for.
Why the course could not have told you this
The course you paid for was not bad at its job. Its job was to finish you, and it finished you. Its job was never to employ you, and nobody in that room could have done the employing — because nobody in that room had a payroll. A pay scale is an internal document. You only have one if you are signing the offer letters.
That is not a small distinction. It decides what the teaching optimises for. A course is paid when you enrol and graded on whether you finish. A payroll is paid every month and graded on whether the person can do the work on the second Tuesday of a bad month. Those two things point at different skills, and nobody told you they were different.
What happened to the people who sold this in the first place
The largest name that sold this cohort the founder dream has quietly moved on. Its site now filters for partners with capital and ambition, its testimonials are investors and founders in Dubai, London, Toronto and the United States, and not one of them is a Pakistani student. It also, now, places virtual assistants into those clients’ businesses.
So the organisation that sold you the founder dream sells people like you, as staff, to the buyers who actually had the capital. I am not saying that to make you angry. I am saying it because it tells you which door was ever open — and that door leads to row 5 on the table above, which is more money than most of the founder dream ever paid anybody.
Who is writing this
Tehsin Rashad. I run operations for a BPO out of Lahore and I have hired 169 people against the bands above. I read the CVs. I sit in the interviews. I sign the offer letters, and I am the one who decides when somebody moves from row 2 to row 3.
I do not sell on Amazon, I do not have a course, and I am not going to tell you what the market is like. I am going to tell you what I pay, what I hire on, and what I put CVs down for — because that is the only thing I actually know that you do not.
What this is not
- Not another Amazon course. There is no module, no batch and no certificate.
- Not a job guarantee. I publish the bands; I do not promise you one.
- Not a webinar. There is nothing to register for and nothing starts at 9pm.
